Woman Granted GH¢10k Bail After Allegedly Injuring Man in Fight Over GH¢2.40

A 48-year-old woman, Esi Affumwaa, has been granted bail by the Assin Fosu District Court after being accused of attacking a man during a fight over GH¢2.40.

According to MyJoyOnline.com, the court, led by His Worship Abdul Majid Iliasu, set the bail at GH¢10,000 with two sureties, including one who must live within the court’s jurisdiction.

The incident reportedly happened on February 26, 2024, at Assin Wurakese Camp in the Assin Fosu Municipality.

As MyJoyOnline.com explains, the complainant, Karim Osman, a 36-year-old farmer, went to Affumwaa’s house to buy a cigarette. A disagreement broke out over the GH¢2.40 debt, leading to a heated argument.

Prosecutors told the court that Affumwaa allegedly hit Osman on the head with a piece of firewood and then bit his testicle, causing serious injuries and heavy bleeding.

MyJoyOnline.com further reports that after the incident, Osman reported the attack to the police, leading to Affumwaa’s arrest.

During questioning, she admitted to harming Osman but claimed she was only defending herself. In court, she pleaded guilty with an explanation, insisting that she did not bite his testicle but rather squeezed it during the fight. As MyJoyOnline.com highlights, she said she acted in self-defense because Osman allegedly made her fall.

The case has now been adjourned, with Affumwaa out on bail as the legal process continues.
