Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has instructed all government agencies to switch to natural gas vehicles to tackle high fuel costs and promote cleaner energy.

In a statement by his spokesman, Tinubu urged departments to sell their petrol and diesel vehicles and use compressed natural gas (CNG), solar power, or electricity instead.

This move aims to tap into Nigeria’s vast gas reserves and ease transportation expenses for citizens.

The decision follows plans to introduce over 2,000 gas-powered buses and tricycles to cut costs before Tinubu’s first year in office ends on May 29.

Nigeria has abundant gas reserves, but they’re not fully utilized due to lacking processing facilities.
