Prof Adei Commends Mahama for Strong Start, but Says Bigger Challenges Await – MyJoyOnline
Renowned economist and former NDPC Chairman, Professor Stephen Adei, has applauded President John Dramani Mahama for doing well in his first 100 days in office.
In an interview with MyJoyOnline’s The Pulse on March 6, he said Mahama’s early days as leader have been impressive.
According to MyJoyOnline, Prof Adei compared Mahama’s start to past governments and said he has observed the first 100 days of many leaders since Ghana’s independence. He believes Mahama deserves a high score for his performance so far.
However, MyJoyOnline reports that Prof Adei also warned that the real test of leadership comes after this early “honeymoon” phase.
He explained that while Mahama has made a good start, the president will soon have to take tough economic decisions to stabilize the country.
MyJoyOnline highlighted Prof Adei’s concerns about Ghana’s limited benefits from its mineral wealth and the ongoing fight against illegal mining (galamsey).
He stated that generating revenue and fixing the economy will be Mahama’s biggest challenges moving forward.
Despite these challenges, MyJoyOnline quoted Prof Adei as saying that Mahama has done well so far and hopes he continues on the right path.
He stressed that Ghana cannot keep “resetting the agenda” with every new government.
