Ashanti Minister Supports Odumase Explosion Victims, Assures Urgent Action on Collapsing Bridge

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has given financial help to victims of the deadly explosion at Odumase, near Konongo, in the Asante Akyem Central Municipality.

According to MyJoyOnline, the tragic incident led to the deaths of three people and left many others injured.

During his visit to the affected area, Dr. Amoakohene expressed deep concern over the explosion. MyJoyOnline reports that the blast happened when someone was allegedly selling explosives at home. Due to heavy rain, something triggered the explosives, causing massive destruction.

At least 30 houses were damaged, two people lost their lives, and several others were hurt. The minister promised that the government would assist the victims and directed the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to provide immediate relief.

MyJoyOnline confirms that NADMO has been asked to assess the damage and compile a full report to help determine further support.

Apart from the explosion, MyJoyOnline highlights another danger in the area—a collapsing bridge. Dr. Amoakohene revealed that mining activities had weakened the bridge, putting the entire town at risk.

He praised local leaders for closing it and warned against using motorcycles and tricycles on it.

Dr. Amoakohene also assured residents that he would inform the Roads Minister and send engineers to fix the bridge as soon as possible, MyJoyOnline states.

Meanwhile, security forces are investigating the explosion, but MyJoyOnline reports that the people selling the explosives have fled.

The minister confirmed that no arrests have been made yet, but the police are working hard to find those responsible.

Dr. Amoakohene emphasized that such dangerous activities must not happen again, as MyJoyOnline points out.

The government is committed to ensuring safety in the community and will take strict action against those involved in illegal explosive sales.
