Government Sets March 17 Deadline to Return Diplomatic and Service Passports
(Adapted from MyJoyOnline)
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has issued a final warning to individuals still holding Diplomatic and Service Passports from the previous government.
According to MyJoyOnline, these passports must be returned by March 17, 2025, as they are no longer valid under the current administration.
So far, 404 Diplomatic Passports and 387 Service Passports have not been returned, despite earlier reminders.
The Ministry is urging former officials, including ex-ministers, MPs, judges, and others, to hand over their passports to the Legal and Treaties Bureau immediately.
MyJoyOnline reports that the directive comes from the Office of the President, which ordered a review and retrieval of all such passports.
The Ministry has warned that any passports not returned by the deadline will be canceled and added to a Stop-Watch List. This means they could be seized at Ghana’s borders if used.
The move is part of efforts to ensure that only current government officials and authorized individuals hold these special passports.
MyJoyOnline highlights that this step aims to tighten control over diplomatic and service travel documents, preventing misuse and ensuring proper accountability.
