Asantehene Removes Mpasaaso Chief Over Illegal Mining and Misconduct

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has removed Nana Amofa Twumasi II as chief of Mpasaaso No. 2 in the Ashanti Region.
According to MyJoyOnline, the chief was destooled after being found guilty of several offenses, including illegal mining, doubts about his royal background, and failing to serve his community and traditional leaders properly.
The chief, who ruled for 41 years, faced the Asanteman Traditional Council at the Manhyia Palace, where the Asantehene highlighted the destruction of water bodies caused by illegal mining in Mpasaaso.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II stressed that chiefs must protect the land and follow traditional customs, not break the law.
MyJoyOnline reports that this is not the first time the Manhyia Palace has taken action against chiefs involved in illegal mining. The Asantehene’s decision shows his commitment to preserving the environment and upholding the integrity of traditional leadership.
