President John Mahama has called on public sector institutions to reduce their spending so the government can save enough resources to help everyone.

According to Myjoyonline.com, Mahama explained that when he took office, he found the economy in poor condition due to what he called the “mismanagement” by the previous Nana Akufo-Addo administration.

He promised to work hard to fix the economy, and one of his key plans is to cut unnecessary government spending.

Myjoyonline.com reports that Mahama urged both government agencies and citizens to make sacrifices. “We must all cut expenses as much as possible so we can gather enough resources to share with everyone,” he said.

He compared the situation to preparing a meal, saying, “Let’s start cooking the meal now so we can share it once it’s ready.” This means the government needs to save money now to ensure there’s enough for everyone in the future.

Mahama also warned against ignoring the country’s economic problems. He asked, “What good will it do if we act like ostriches, bury our heads in the sand, and let the economy collapse?”

Myjoyonline.com highlights that this statement shows his commitment to facing the challenges head-on instead of pretending everything is fine.

These remarks were made during a meeting at the Ministry of Labour, where the government announced a 10% increase in base pay for public sector workers starting in January.

Myjoyonline.com notes that while this pay raise is a positive step, Mahama’s call for spending cuts shows that tough decisions are needed to stabilize the economy.

His message is clear: everyone must work together and make sacrifices to ensure a better future for Ghana.
