The government and workers’ unions have agreed to raise salaries for public sector employees.

According to myjoyonline.com, the new base pay increase, announced on Thursday, February 20, 2025, will take effect from January to December 2025.

This means public workers will see a 10% boost in their salaries for the year.

Labour Minister Dr. Rashid Pelpuo explained that the daily minimum wage has also gone up to GH₵19.97. This is the second pay raise in less than a year, following a big 23% salary increase in 2024.

Myjoyonline.com reports that these adjustments are meant to help workers cope with the rising cost of living, as prices for goods and services continue to climb.

This agreement shows the government’s effort to support public sector workers during tough economic times.

However, some may wonder if these increases are enough to keep up with inflation and the daily struggles many face.

Myjoyonline.com highlights that while the raises are a step forward, workers and unions will likely keep pushing for better pay and conditions in the future.
