A Kenyan magistrate, Monica Kivuti, died after being shot by a senior police officer in a Nairobi courtroom.

Chief Justice Martha K Koome announced that Kivuti succumbed to her severe injuries.

The shooting happened after Kivuti canceled bail for the policeman’s wife, who had fled after being charged with fraud.

The policeman, Samson Kipchirchir Kipruto, was killed by other officers at the scene.

Three officers were injured during the incident but are stable. Justice Koome expressed deep sorrow and highlighted the need for sensitivity during this tough time.

The attack shocked Kenyans, as it’s unusual for such violence to happen in court. The judiciary promised to increase security measures.

The Law Society of Kenya stated that threats against judicial officers are rising and pledged to work on strategies to protect them.
