Fortnite Set to Return to iPhones in EU After Four-Year Gap

Epic Games, the creator of Fortnite, is getting the green light to have its own app store on Apple devices in the EU, thanks to a new law promoting fair competition.

This means iPhone users in the EU will soon have more options for downloading apps beyond Apple’s App Store. The move comes after Epic Games pulled Fortnite from the App Store in 2020 due to disagreements over Apple’s rules and fees.

The EU’s Digital Markets Act is making this change possible, aiming to level the playing field for companies big and small. While these changes won’t apply to the UK just yet, similar regulations are in the works.

However, Apple warns that opening up to alternative app stores could pose security risks for users. This development is part of a larger effort to foster fair and competitive markets in the tech industry.
