If you were hoping to see Donald Trump or Kamala Harris on Saturday Night Live (SNL) before the November 5, 2024 election, it’s not happening.
According to Parade, SNL’s creator, Lorne Michaels, said they won’t appear because of election rules. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has a rule that says if a candidate is shown on TV, all candidates, including the minor ones, must be given equal time.
This makes it complicated to feature any of the main candidates like Trump or Harris without inviting all the others too.
Michaels explained that because of these laws, neither Trump nor Harris can appear on the show before the election.
However, after the election, they could possibly make cameos. In the past, Parade reports that Donald Trump hosted SNL in 2015 before officially running for president, and Hillary Clinton also appeared before she became the Democratic nominee.
Even though past presidents like Gerald Ford and Barack Obama appeared on SNL, they did so either before becoming president or after their terms.
Due to Trump’s complicated relationship with the show, it’s unlikely he’ll return even if he wins. But Parade suggests that if Harris wins, there’s a good chance we’ll see her on SNL with her look-alike, Maya Rudolph, who portrays her on the show.
