What Eating Fast Food Weekly or Daily Does to Your Body

Fast food is convenient and many people eat it often, but what does it do to your body? Registered dietitians weighed in on the effects of eating fast food once a week versus every day.

Once a Week:
Eating fast food once a week probably won’t harm healthy people who eat well and stay active, says Ana Reisdorf, MS, RD.

However, for those with health conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure, the high sodium and sugar content might be problematic.

Cesar Sauza, RD, adds that a balanced diet with whole foods can offset occasional fast food indulgences.

Every Day:
Eating fast food daily is more concerning. It is often high in calories, fat, sodium, and sugar, which can lead to weight gain and increase the risk of chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease, says Sauza.

While healthier choices are possible at fast food restaurants, frequent consumption still poses health risks. Reisdorf suggests choosing smaller portions and pairing them with nutritious meals to mitigate the impact.

Overall, moderation and balanced eating are key to managing fast food consumption.
