The FCC, which oversees US communication, just banned robocalls using AI voices. They made it a crime, saying states can go after those making these calls.

This is because there’s been a surge in fake calls mimicking famous voices or family members. The FCC chairwoman, Jessica Rosenworcel, warned about the dangers.

Recently, there were fake calls in New Hampshire impersonating President Biden, urging people not to vote. This caused concern, with thousands affected.

Now, the FCC’s action makes using AI voices in these calls illegal, giving states more power to stop this. This move came after 26 states asked the FCC to act against AI in calls.

It’s part of a wider concern about technology like deepfakes, which can manipulate voices or videos, posing risks during elections.
