Donald Trump’s campaign said that some of its private messages were hacked, and they think it might be Iran behind it.

The news outlet Politico reported that it received some campaign documents, including research about Trump’s running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance.

The campaign told the BBC that these documents were stolen by foreign sources trying to mess with the 2024 election.

The campaign didn’t provide proof linking the hack to Iran, but Microsoft reported that Iranian hackers tried to target a U.S. presidential campaign in June.

This hack attempt happened around the time Trump picked his vice-presidential nominee. The campaign’s spokesperson, Steven Cheung, suggested that Iran might be worried about Trump stopping their actions, just like he did during his first term.

Politico also shared that it received emails from someone named “Robert” who sent information about Vance and Florida Senator Marco Rubio.

Microsoft pointed out that Iran has tried to influence the last three U.S. elections. The BBC tried to contact Iranian officials but hasn’t received a comment yet.

The story adds to ongoing concerns about foreign interference in U.S. elections, with Iran being a notable player, according to Microsoft and U.S. security sources. (BBC)
