Rare Opportunity to See Northern Lights in Southern US This Weekend
The US could witness a stunning display of the Northern Lights this weekend, reaching as far south as Alabama.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued a geomagnetic storm watch, indicating that a severe solar storm could make the aurora borealis visible across much of the country.
However, while this presents a unique chance to witness the beauty of the Northern Lights, it also comes with potential impacts on GPS systems, power grids, and other infrastructure.
This event, caused by a sunspot cluster, marks NOAA’s first severe geomagnetic storm watch since 2005.
While the storms could cause disruptions, they also offer the possibility of an unforgettable celestial spectacle.
