Rapper Fatman Scoop, known for his hit “Be Faithful,” tragically passed away on Friday, August 30, after collapsing on stage during a concert in Hamden, Connecticut.
He was 53 years old. According to Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett, Fatman Scoop, whose real name was Isaac Freeman III, experienced a “medical emergency” while performing.
He was rushed to a hospital but sadly didn’t survive. Parade reports that video footage captured him encouraging the audience to cheer just before he suddenly fell.
His family confirmed his death on social media, expressing their grief and remembering him not only as a performer but as a beloved father, brother, and friend.
They described him as a joyful person whose music brought happiness to many. Parade also highlights a tribute from Missy Elliott, who honored Fatman Scoop’s impact on the music industry and how his energy made people want to dance for over two decades.
Mayor Garrett also offered condolences, acknowledging the rapper’s wide fan base and the thousands who attended his final performance.
