Rachael Lillis, the voice actress known for her roles in the Pokémon series, has passed away at 46 after battling breast cancer, according to BBC.
Lillis voiced popular characters like Misty and Jessie on the beloved show and also appeared in Pokémon films and video games.
Veronica Taylor, who voiced Ash Ketchum on the series, shared the news and praised Lillis’s exceptional talent and her ability to bring joy to many through her voice.
Taylor noted that Lillis’s voice was a significant part of many people’s childhoods, filling Saturday mornings and school hours with her remarkable acting and comic timing.
Lillis’s sister, Laurie Orr, confirmed her death on a fundraising page for Lillis’s cancer treatment, expressing deep grief and noting that Lillis’s health had worsened recently. Born in Niagara Falls, New York, Lillis trained in opera before becoming a voice actress.
Over her career, she voiced characters in 423 Pokémon episodes from 1997 to 2015 and continued to be a part of the Pokémon universe through various media, including the film Detective Pikachu and the Super Smash Bros video games.
A memorial service for Lillis will be arranged at a later date.
