A 4.4 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Los Angeles Area, Shaking Homes and Causing Alarm

A strong earthquake shook the Los Angeles area on Monday afternoon, startling residents and rattling homes. The quake, with a magnitude of 4.4, struck near Highland Park, a neighborhood in Los Angeles County, around 12:20 PM PST (8:20 PM BST), according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).

The tremor was felt in nearby cities such as Pasadena and Glendale, and even reached the coast in places like Manhattan Beach and El Segundo. However, there was no tsunami warning issued following the quake, as noted by the USGS.

State officials are currently checking for damage and injuries, but so far, none have been reported. The Los Angeles Fire Department is conducting a thorough survey of the area to check for any structural issues.

Initially, the earthquake was estimated to be a 4.7 magnitude, but it was later adjusted to 4.4 by the USGS. This follows several similar-sized earthquakes in the region recently, including ones in Grapevine and Bakersfield, California last week.
