Prime Minister Gabriel Attal spoke at his official residence, Hôtel de Matignon in Paris.

He stated that “tonight, none of the extremes can claim a majority,” crediting the “French spirit” for this outcome.

He highlighted that many members of President Macron’s Ensemble alliance have been re-elected, calling being PM the “honour of my life.”

Attal noted that although Ensemble won three times the number of seats predicted, they still don’t have a majority.

Therefore, he announced, “tomorrow morning, I will hand in my resignation to the President of the Republic.”

Despite this, he mentioned he will stay in his role “as long as my duty requires.”
