Patrick Mahomes’ Dad Arrested for DWI Before Super Bowl

Patrick Mahomes Sr., father of Kansas City Chiefs’ star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was arrested in Tyler, Texas, on suspicion of driving while intoxicated (DWI), according to reports from Parade. The arrest occurred just a week before his son is set to play in Super Bowl LVIII.

Mahomes Sr., 53, was reportedly held at Smith County Jail following the arrest, with bond set at $10,000. This isn’t his first brush with DWI—he was previously arrested in 2018 and pleaded guilty to the charges in 2019.

The timing of the arrest is notable, coming right before his son’s big game against the San Francisco 49ers. Patrick Mahomes Jr. is no stranger to the Super Bowl, having played in it multiple times in his short NFL career. Meanwhile, his father, a former pro baseball pitcher, has been a familiar face at Chiefs games, even mingling with pop star Taylor Swift, who has been linked romantically with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

While Swift and Kelce’s relationship has garnered attention, Mahomes Sr. has been supportive, calling Kelce “like another son” and describing Swift as “down to Earth” and “genuine” after meeting her.

The news adds an unexpected twist to the Mahomes family narrative, just as the Chiefs are gearing up for another shot at Super Bowl glory.
