A growing number of Indians are losing hope about their future quality of life, with rising costs and stagnant wages leading to financial struggles, a new survey shows.
Over 37% of those surveyed said they expect living conditions for ordinary people to get worse over the next year—this is the highest percentage since 2013. The survey, conducted by polling agency C-Voter, involved over 5,200 people from across India.
One key issue is food inflation, which has heavily impacted household budgets. Despite India being the world’s fifth-largest economy, growth is expected to slow down, and nearly two-thirds of respondents said inflation has made their lives harder since Modi became prime minister.
Many have seen their personal income stay the same while their expenses rise, leading to difficulty managing everyday costs.
In response, Modi is expected to announce measures in the upcoming budget to boost the economy, improve incomes, and ease the burden on the middle class. However, the job market remains a challenge, with not enough opportunities for India’s young population.
While the government allocated billions for job creation, those programs are still in the planning stages, with no immediate impact.
This data comes from Reuters, showing that many citizens feel they are not seeing enough improvements in their daily lives.
