Mom of 6-Year-Old Shooter Sentenced to 2 Years in Prison: A Virginia mom, Deja Taylor, whose 7-year-old son accidentally shot his teacher, has been given a two-year prison term for child neglect.
Despite the Commonwealth’s recommendation of a six-month sentence, the judge opted for a longer term, expressing the severity of the neglect charge.
Taylor’s son used her gun to shoot his teacher, Abigail Zwerner, at school in January. Zwerner, who endured surgeries and therapy, filed a $40 million lawsuit against the school district, alleging negligence. The judge ruled the lawsuit can proceed.
Taylor, facing federal charges as well, expressed remorse and apologized to Zwerner. (Source: CNN)
