Michigan’s Supreme Court won’t listen to voters trying to block Donald Trump from the presidential primary.
They claimed Trump’s role in the Capitol riots should disqualify him, but the court disagreed. Unlike Colorado, Michigan’s attempt was unlikely to succeed from the start.
Trump praised the decision, calling it an attempt to manipulate the election. The lawsuit, filed by Free Speech for People, focused on Michigan’s Republican primary.
The court didn’t rule out Trump’s disqualification later. Colorado recently ruled Trump ineligible based on the 14th Amendment, but this might not hold up in the US Supreme Court.
Similar efforts in other states have failed. Trump’s lawyers want Maine’s secretary of state to step aside from a similar case, claiming bias.
