Sebastien Haller’s Goal Sends Ivory Coast to AFCON Final, Setting Up Showdown with Nigeria

In a tense match in Abidjan, Sebastien Haller’s decisive strike in the 65th minute secured Ivory Coast’s spot in the Africa Cup of Nations final against Nigeria. The Borussia Dortmund striker’s volley, which bounced down into the ground and over DR Congo’s goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi, sealed the victory for the hosts.

Despite missed opportunities earlier in the game, including a header just before halftime and a narrow lob, Haller’s goal proved to be the difference. DR Congo struggled to mount a late comeback, with Meschack Elia and Simon Banza failing to convert chances.

Ivory Coast, who had recently parted ways with manager Jean-Louis Gasset, had a challenging journey to the final, narrowly advancing through the group stage and relying on late goals in previous matches.

Now under interim boss Emerse Fae, the Elephants have the opportunity to claim their third continental title, following their victories in 1992 and 2015. The final against Nigeria is set to take place in Abidjan on Sunday.
