Rohingya Refugees Face Harsh Treatment in Indonesia

Yasmin Fatoum, a Rohingya refugee, hoped for a better life in Indonesia, but her journey turned into a nightmare.

Local villagers, seeing refugees as a burden, blocked and pushed their boat away twice. The refugees, escaping violence in Bangladesh, faced illness, hunger, and even death on the journey.

Despite arriving, they encounter unwelcoming locals, accusing them of being ungrateful. Indonesia, providing shelters for humanitarian reasons, is not obligated under international conventions.

The situation worsens as deteriorating security in Bangladesh forces more Rohingyas to flee. Experts predict more arrivals in the coming months.(Source: BBC)
