Latest GOP Debate: Nikki Haley Under Fire, Chris Christie Targets Trump Again, Ramaswamy Sparks Controversy
The recent Republican debate showcased a smaller group of candidates, with familiar dynamics of attacks on a rising contender, Nikki Haley, and the notable absence of Donald Trump.
Despite Trump’s lead in polls, his PAC dismissed the event as a “race for second place.” The debate gained urgency as candidates like Haley, Chris Christie, Ron DeSantis, and Vivek Ramaswamy raced to gather support before the Iowa contest.
Each candidate took a different approach on stage—Christie urging denouncement of Trump, Haley highlighting foreign policy, DeSantis emphasizing his Florida successes, and Ramaswamy embracing conspiracy. Personal insults flew, with everyone targeting Haley.
DeSantis accused her of flip-flopping on transgender issues, and Ramaswamy called her corrupt. Christie, back in his attack dog role, criticized Trump and expressed disappointment in others not doing so.
Ramaswamy, known for his bluntness, embraced conspiracy theories during the debate, claiming the Capitol riot was an inside job, alleging government lies about 9/11, and endorsing the great replacement theory. He also hurled insults, calling Haley corrupt and Christie a fascist.
In response, Christie labeled Ramaswamy the “most obnoxious blowhard in America,” while Haley chose not to engage.
