Paramedics Convicted in Elijah McClain’s Death: Injected Overdose After Police Chokehold

Two paramedics, Jeremy Cooper and Peter Cichuniec, found guilty in the death of Elijah McClain, who was injected with a sedative after a police chokehold in 2019.

The rare prosecution of medical personnel comes after George Floyd’s death and racial justice protests. The jury convicted them of criminally negligent homicide.

McClain, 23, was initially stopped by police in Aurora, Colorado, and later injected with ketamine, leading to his death. The incident gained attention amid nationwide debates on police brutality.

McClain’s family and the city of Aurora settled a lawsuit for $15 million in 2021.

The verdict follows the acquittal of two officers in November and October and the conviction of another officer in October. Sentencing is pending for the paramedics involved.(Source : BBC)
