John Amos, the actor best known for his role in Good Times, has passed away at age 84, according to his son. He died on August 21 in Los Angeles from natural causes, as shared by The Hollywood Reporter.

Amos had a long and successful career, starring in shows like Roots and movies like Coming to America.

According to Parade, his son expressed sadness over his passing, calling him “a man with a heart of gold” and saying that many fans saw him as their “TV father.” Amos’ legacy will live on through his work in television and film.

Amos’ health came into the spotlight in 2023 when his daughter Shannon claimed he had suffered elder abuse and financial exploitation.

She set up a GoFundMe to help with his medical care, but John Amos later denied those claims, stating he was doing well, according to his representative. His daughter, however, stuck by her story, leading to a public family dispute.

The LAPD investigated but found no proof of abuse and attributed the situation to ongoing family conflicts, as reported by Parade.

Throughout the drama, Amos maintained that the truth would come out, saying he was working on a documentary with his son to reveal the real story.

Amos believed in standing by the truth, confident that it would prove his side of the story, as shared in Parade.
