German Ambassador to the UK: No Apology Necessary for Leaked Call Discussed by Russian Sources

Miguel Berger, speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today program, stated that an insecure line used by one of the participants led to the leak of a call between top army officials, allowing Russia to intercept it.

He criticized former UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace’s remarks about German security, stating they play into Russia’s hands.

Berger clarified that an investigation attributed the leak to an individual mistake. He advised against using hotel internet for secure calls.

In the leaked call, German military officers discussed Ukraine’s potential use of German-made missiles, which Chancellor Olaf Scholz has ruled out to avoid escalation.

Berger emphasized the focus should be on supplying ammunition to Ukraine.
