Former Zambian First Lady Esther Lungu and her daughter Chiyeso Katete, along with a relative, have been arrested for suspected possession of properties obtained through illegal means.

Esther Lungu allegedly failed to explain how she acquired a $1.5 million estate in the capital, Lusaka.

This arrest is part of an anti-corruption campaign by President Hakainde Hichilema’s government, which aims to recover allegedly stolen resources from the previous administration led by Edgar Lungu.

The Lungu family denies the charges and plans to challenge them in court. This development adds to the political tension in Zambia ahead of the 2026 elections.
