Zeekr, a Chinese car maker, says it now has the fastest-charging electric vehicle (EV) battery. According to BBC News, their new batteries can charge from 10% to 80% in just 10 and a half minutes with their special fast chargers.

This is faster than Tesla’s current best, which takes about 15 minutes to give its Model 3 enough charge for 175 miles of driving.

Zeekr’s 2025 007 sedan, launching next week, will be the first car to feature this new battery. It also works well in cold weather, charging from 10% to 80% in less than half an hour at temperatures as low as -10°C.

Industry experts say Zeekr’s claim is credible. Tu Le from Sino Auto Insights mentioned that Tesla’s charging technology is no longer the best.

Mark Rainford, a car industry commentator, noted that while many Chinese brands are focused on scaling up, companies like Zeekr are concentrating on improving the charging experience.

Zeekr’s parent company, Geely, owns several well-known brands, including Volvo and Lotus. In May, Zeekr’s shares began trading on the New York Stock Exchange, though they are currently trading below their initial price.

This listing happened just before the U.S. imposed high tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles and other goods, aiming to protect American jobs and address concerns over the fast growth of Chinese EV companies, according to BBC News.
