Instagram and WhatsApp are back online after a global outage affected several Meta apps on Wednesday.

Meta, which owns these apps, said on X that most of the issues were fixed, and they were doing final checks. The company apologized to users who were affected.

More than 22,000 people reported problems with Facebook, and over 18,000 had issues using WhatsApp, according to Downdetector. The outage impacted users in the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia, South America, and the US.

Both WhatsApp and Instagram later announced that they were back up and running, thanking users for their patience.

The problems began around 6:00 PM GMT on Wednesday. Meta confirmed they were aware of a “technical issue” and were working to fix it quickly. Some users couldn’t access the apps at all, while others had issues with feeds not refreshing.

Meta’s platforms, including Facebook, are among the most used in the world, with over three billion active users. The company had a similar, much larger outage in 2021, which lasted for nearly six hours【BBC】.
