Gospel singer Mandisa, known from ‘American Idol,’ was found dead at her home on April 18. She was 47 years old. The cause of her death has now been revealed to be complications from class III obesity, also known as morbid obesity.

This condition is defined by a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or greater, or 35 or greater with obesity-related health issues.

Her death was ruled as “natural” in the autopsy report. Mandisa was last known to be alive about three weeks before friends found her in her Nashville home.

Mandisa’s death was announced on her official Instagram account on April 19. The post asked for prayers for her family and close friends and highlighted her role as an encouraging voice to many.

Mandisa competed on Season 5 of ‘American Idol’ in 2006, finishing ninth. She released six studio albums and won a Grammy Award in 2014 for her album “Overcomer.” David Pierce from K-Love radio station praised her for her kindness, smile, powerful voice, and big heart.
