African leaders gather in Senegal for the swearing-in of President-elect Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
Mr. Faye won last month’s elections, securing 54% of the votes, ahead of his main challenger, ruling coalition candidate Amadou Ba.
The country’s constitutional council confirmed him as the winner on Friday.
Security has been increased around the presidential palace ahead of the inauguration.
Around 15 heads of state, including Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, are expected to attend the event on Tuesday.
The lead-up to the election saw violent protests after President Macky Sall tried to delay the vote.
Mr. Faye himself was jailed and released just before the election, following a government amnesty.
Many Senegalese see him as a symbol of hope, hoping for significant change under his leadership.
