Zelensky: 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers killed in Russian invasion
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed that 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers have lost their lives since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
He clarified that he provided the updated death toll in response to inflated figures quoted by Russia. Zelensky also expressed frustration over delays in Western military aid, which he believes have contributed to setbacks in Ukraine’s efforts to combat the Russian invasion.
Additionally, Zelensky criticized Russia’s handling of the conflict, stating that 180,000 Russian soldiers have been killed and tens of thousands more injured.
He referenced a joint project by BBC Russian and Mediazona website, which identified over 45,000 Russian servicepeople who died in the conflict.
However, estimates suggest the actual number may be higher.
Ukraine’s Defence Minister, Rustam Umerov, highlighted the impact of delayed military aid on Ukraine’s ability to defend itself.
He emphasized the urgent need for timely supply to avoid further disadvantages in the ongoing conflict.
The news also touched upon Ukraine’s efforts to bolster support from Western allies, including recent security deals with Italy and Canada.
These deals aim to provide financial and defence aid to Ukraine until it can join NATO.
However, challenges remain on both sides, with Russia also facing difficulties in resourcing its military activities.
