‘It just didn’t work between us.’
Ethan and Olivia Plath, from the show “Welcome to Plathville,” shared on Instagram that they’re not together anymore. They’ve been married for five years but have decided to go their separate ways. Ethan explained that they had different life goals and were going in different directions. They both tried their best, but it just didn’t work out.
He added: “I wish Olivia the best in the future ahead. I care for her deeply and always will.”
Meanwhile, Olivia revealed: “Ethan and I have decided to go our separate ways. I have ambivalent memories of us being 18 years old, innocently dreaming of forever—but the partner you choose is a reflection of the world you want to live in, and at 18 I didn’t know who I was or what kind of life I wanted to create for myself.”
Olivia’s message continued by referencing their sheltered, conservative Christian upbringing—and specifically, her departure from it.
“7 years later, I’ve already begun my journey of questioning, deconstructing and rebuilding,” she wrote, “and I know that is a process that I will continue to prioritize throughout my life.”
Olivia wrapped up her post by acknowledging the happy times and wishing Ethan well.
“There were good moments and I want to remember and honor those,” she shared. “We fell in love as children and are going our separate ways as adults. Wiser, older, and braver. We will be okay. Thank you for the good times, Ethan. I wish the best for you.”
The Plath family‘s reality TV series followed Ethan and his wife, Olivia—and Ethan’s siblings and parents—as they navigated life after having a sheltered, homeschooled upbringing in rural Georgia.
Ethan and Olivia’s marital woes have been a major plot line in Welcome to Plathville, as well as the ongoing rift between the couple and Ethan’s family members.
