Liberia’s President-elect Joseph Boakai, in his first national address following his victory in the run-off elections, praised George Weah for graciously accepting defeat after a closely contested election.

Boakai, a former vice-president, secured 50.64% of the vote, and he thanked Liberians for trusting him to lead and bring about the desired change.

He emphasized the need for effective leadership to address challenges in various aspects of society, including government institutions.

Boakai promised to address corruption in high places and focus on development, particularly in building roads.

The president-elect plans to form a transitional team to ensure a smooth handover of power when he takes office in January, succeeding Weah.
