UPenn President Resigns Over Controversial Antisemitism Comments
Elizabeth Magill, the president of the University of Pennsylvania, has stepped down following criticism of her remarks on antisemitism during a Congressional hearing.
Magill faced backlash for not clearly addressing the issue of students advocating for the genocide of Jews. The university stated that she voluntarily resigned but will stay in her role until a successor is appointed.
The controversial comments were made during a hearing prompted by campus protests related to the Israel-Gaza conflict and increased antisemitic incidents. Magill’s resignation followed disapproval from the White House and the withdrawal of a $100 million donation.
Two Jewish students at UPenn have filed a lawsuit, describing the campus as a breeding ground for anti-Jewish hatred.
The University of Pennsylvania, part of the Ivy League, is renowned for its academic excellence.
