A major donor withdrew a $100 million grant from the University of Pennsylvania following controversy over its president, Elizabeth Magill, not directly addressing questions on campus antisemitism during a congressional hearing.

The donor, Ross Stevens, expressed being “appalled” and cited concerns about the university’s handling of calls for violence against Jewish people. Magill has faced calls to resign, and the university is under formal investigation for alleged antisemitism.

Two students have filed a lawsuit, claiming the university fosters anti-Jewish hatred.

The situation highlights challenges faced by U.S. campuses amid increased tensions, with broader implications for free speech and discrimination concerns. (Credit: BBC)
