The UK is helping Israel deal with Iran’s missile attack, which is part of the ongoing Middle East conflict. Iran fired 180 missiles at Israel, but most were blocked, according to Israel’s military.
The UK’s Defence Secretary, John Healey, confirmed that British forces were involved to stop the situation from getting worse, though he didn’t give much detail.
The BBC reports that UK fighter jets were part of the response, just like in April when Iran attacked Israel with drones.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer made it clear that the UK supports Israel and believes it has the right to defend itself.
Iran said it fired the missiles to avenge the deaths of leaders from the Hezbollah and Hamas militant groups, along with a top Iranian commander, killed in recent attacks.
UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer had been talking with Israel’s leader, Benjamin Netanyahu, about the risk of attacks when the missile strikes began, causing Netanyahu to abruptly end the call.
Hezbollah, an ally of Iran, has been firing rockets at northern Israel since Israel began airstrikes on Lebanon.
The BBC also mentions that over 1,000 people in Lebanon have died from Israeli strikes over the past two weeks, and the violence has worsened since October 8th, when Hamas attacked Israel from Gaza.
British citizens in Lebanon are being told to leave as the situation becomes more dangerous.
