UK Subsidized Power Plant Accused of Burning Wood from Precious Forests

The BBC has uncovered evidence suggesting that Drax, a power company receiving £6bn in green subsidies from the UK government, has been burning wood pellets sourced from rare forests worldwide, including Canada.

Despite claiming to avoid logging in sensitive areas, Drax has allegedly obtained timber from forests classified as “no go areas,” raising concerns about its environmental impact.

The revelations come amid debates over extending Drax’s subsidies, with critics questioning the sustainability of its practices and the effectiveness of carbon offsetting measures.
