Just two days after Donald Trump survived a shocking assassination attempt, his supporters gathered at the Republican convention in Milwaukee, chanting “fight!” as they prepared to welcome him. Trump is set to give a major speech on Thursday, but some hope he’ll appear sooner.

The attack at Trump’s rally on Saturday, which left one dead and two injured, has dramatically changed the mood of the convention.

Trump scrapped his planned speech after the incident, showing how serious it was. Republicans at the convention told the BBC the shooting had only strengthened their support for Trump.

Delegates expressed mixed emotions: excitement for Trump’s return and relief that he survived. Joe Mullins from Florida said the attack scared him and brought him to tears, while Matt Limoges from Philadelphia felt reassured seeing Trump up and walking.

Terasa Filsoof and Cindy Werner, who watched the attack on TV, were relieved when Trump stood up and raised his fist, signaling he was okay.

The convention atmosphere was both defiant and celebratory. Despite the attack, attendees were confident in Trump’s chances in the upcoming election.

Terasa Filsoof summed it up by saying the images of Trump after the shooting showed his strength and determination.
