Telegram CEO Pavel Durov, who started the messaging app in 2013, was arrested by French police at an airport near Paris.

His private jet had just landed at Le Bourget Airport when authorities detained him.

Reports say Durov was arrested due to a warrant related to Telegram, which is a popular app in countries like Russia and Ukraine.

According to BBC, Russia’s embassy in France is working to understand the situation.

Durov had been traveling on his private jet, as reported by French TV channel TF1.

Telegram, a major social media platform, was banned in Russia in 2018 after Durov refused to share user data with the government.

However, the ban was lifted in 2021, as mentioned by BBC.

Durov left Russia in 2014 after refusing to shut down opposition groups on his previous social media platform, VKontakte, which he later sold.
