Tragic Loss: Tanzanian Student, Clemence Mtenga, Killed in Israel’s Unprecedented Attack”

Clemence Mtenga, a 22-year-old agriculture student from Tanzania, tragically lost his life in Israel during the October 7th attacks carried out by Hamas gunmen from the Gaza Strip. Although the circumstances of his death remain unclear, he was not among the hostages whose bodies were recovered from Gaza.

Mtenga, part of a study program in Israel, was set to graduate this week from the Sokoine University of Agriculture in Tanzania. His classmates remember him as a humble leader, always ready to assist and advise. Despite the devastating news, he was posthumously awarded his degree.

The two Tanzanians, including Joshua Loitu Mollel, were part of an agricultural internship program and living in Israel. Mtenga, residing at Kibbutz Nir Oz, was scheduled to work at a local dairy farm when it was attacked. The tragic incident has left his friends and fellow students in shock, remembering him as a fitness enthusiast and good friend.

As Mtenga’s body is repatriated to Tanzania for a funeral in his hometown near Kilimanjaro, friends and family gather to pay their respects. Revocatus Kimario, head of Sugeco, the university’s internship program, hails Mtenga as a hero seeking skills to develop agriculture in his home country.

Despite the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, Ezekiel Kitiku, another student in the program, chooses to stay in Israel. He shares the pain of losing his friend, expressing faith that they will meet again someday.
