Supreme Court Blocks States from Removing Trump from Ballot

The US Supreme Court has ruled that only Congress has the power to remove Donald Trump from presidential ballots.

This decision prevents individual states from disqualifying him. The court’s unanimous ruling is a win for Trump, allowing his campaign to proceed without obstacles from state courts or officials.

However, the ruling doesn’t address whether Trump’s actions on January 6, 2021, constituted insurrection or if presidents are exempt from the 14th Amendment’s insurrection clause.

While liberals on the court wanted to leave room for national efforts to determine Trump’s eligibility, the conservative majority closed that door.

Justice Amy Coney Barrett cautioned against amplifying disagreement, but with more contentious cases ahead, a calm political climate seems unlikely.
