World leaders at a peace summit in Switzerland plan to declare their support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

Over 90 countries and organizations are attending to build support for ending the war in Ukraine. Notably, Russia and its ally China are absent, raising doubts about the summit’s impact.

The attendees, including Saudi Arabia and Kenya, aim to agree on issues like nuclear safety and food exports. Despite differing views, they are expected to condemn Russia’s invasion.

A draft statement seen by Reuters calls for Ukraine to regain control of key areas and labels the conflict a “war,” a term Russia rejects.

The summit will also address humanitarian concerns such as returning prisoners and abducted children, while more contentious issues, like territory under Russian control, will be discussed later.

Plans for a second summit, possibly in Saudi Arabia, are in the works.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky hopes the summit’s outcomes will pressure Russia towards peace.

However, Russia dismissed the event, and President Putin’s ceasefire proposal, which required Ukraine to withdraw from four occupied regions, was rejected by Western leaders.
