Son of Spanish Actor Gets Life Sentence for Killing and Dismembering Man
Daniel Sancho Bronchalo, the son of Spanish TV star Rodolfo Sancho Aguirre, has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder and dismemberment of Colombian surgeon Edwin Arrieta Arteaga on Thailand’s Koh Phangan island last year.
Sancho, 30, admitted to the crime, claiming it was in self-defense. He had initially reported Arrieta missing but later confessed to the murder.
The court on nearby Koh Samui island found Sancho guilty of premeditated murder, hiding a body, and property destruction.
His death sentence was reduced to life imprisonment due to his cooperation during the trial. Sancho was also ordered to pay 4 million baht (about $118,000) in damages to Arrieta’s family.
Sancho, a chef and YouTuber, was found to have bought items like a knife and cleaning supplies before the murder, suggesting it was planned. He later led police to various locations where he had disposed of Arrieta’s body parts.
Sancho’s defense claimed he acted in self-defense after Arrieta allegedly tried to assault him. The case has attracted significant media attention in Spain.
According to BBC, the victim’s family is satisfied with the life sentence and the financial compensation.
