Somalia’s parliament has given the green light to a significant defense pact with Turkey.

The ten-year agreement involves Turkey providing arms and training to Somali navy forces and deploying its own ships in Somali waters.

Experts see this as a crucial move to boost Somalia’s maritime security.

Prime Minister Hamza Abdi stated that the deal addresses concerns about terrorism, piracy, illegal fishing, and environmental pollution

. This development comes amid tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia over a separate agreement involving the self-declared republic of Somaliland.

Somalia accuses Ethiopia of violating its sovereignty in this matter.
