President Cyril Ramaphosa criticized the main opposition party in South Africa for using a burning flag in one of its election ads.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) defended the image, saying it wanted to show that the country is facing serious problems. While burning the flag isn’t against the law, the president called it an “abuse” that undermines national unity.
The ad warns that life will get worse under the ruling African National Congress (ANC), but ends with a message urging support for the DA.
Some people were upset by the ad, accusing the DA of disrespecting the flag. Ramaphosa emphasized the importance of free speech but urged respect and warned against inciting violence.
He also highlighted the progress South Africa has made since the end of apartheid. The DA defended the ad, calling it a symbolic warning about the country’s future.
