Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the person responsible for handling weapons on the movie set where Alec Baldwin’s gun accidentally killed a cinematographer, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for involuntary manslaughter.

Although she was found guilty, she was acquitted of tampering with evidence. The court decided this was the most severe punishment she could receive.

Alec Baldwin, who fired the gun, also faces charges. Prosecutors argued Gutierrez-Reed didn’t properly check the gun, allowing a live round to be loaded instead of a dummy one.

They say her negligence led to the tragic death of Halyna Hutchins. Gutierrez-Reed’s lawyer argued that she wasn’t solely to blame and pointed fingers at Baldwin, claiming he deviated from the script by aiming the gun.

Despite the verdict, Gutierrez-Reed plans to appeal.
